What was once a small Fitzroy front garden with tired shrubs and plants with no real purpose, has been transformed into a lush subtropical retreat, complete with new pathways, layered planting, and inviting spaces for outdoor living.
The Starting Point
The garden originally featured a timber deck and a scattering of old trees, but the rest of the space lacked purpose. Overgrown shrubs and an unused lawn made the area feel closed-in and disconnected from the home.
The Transformation
The existing deck became the anchor point of the new design, carefully incorporated into a complete garden makeover. Old and tired plants were removed and replaced with lush subtropical species that will, over time, create a vibrant, green retreat.
To improve flow, a new path now leads from the front gate through the garden to the deck and house, while a side path links to the back entry. Straightcurve Garden Edging was used to divide the garden into different levels, introducing structure and a clean, modern finish.
One of the most striking changes is the new terrace below the deck, designed to house a spa pool for year-round relaxation. The lawn was removed and replaced with a pebbled patio area, creating a second outdoor seating option at garden level.
A Garden for Living
The combination of deck, terrace, and patio now offers multiple spots to relax, dine, and entertain. As the palms and subtropical planting grow and mature, the garden will provide both texture and privacy—transforming the once-tired front yard into a personal sanctuary.
By blending existing mature trees with bold new planting and thoughtful design, this Fitzroy front garden has been completely reimagined as a functional, private retreat the homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
