This backyard transformation began with an underwhelming and uninviting space—an aging fence, a tired pergola, and little to inspire relaxation. The client cleared the area, allowing us to reshape the landscape and create a functional, stylish retreat.
Designing a Serene Escape
To bring life to the space, we:
🌿 Created a lush garden bed along the back of the pergola, slightly raised and framed with Corten garden edging, finished with decorative bark for a natural yet polished look.
🛠️ Built a new fence to enhance the backdrop, incorporating bamboo screens and a custom Corten steel panel the client had made.
🪨 Designed a patio retreat, laying pavers beneath the pergola to provide a shaded, welcoming seating area.
🏡 Connected the space with pathways, using flagstone pavers leading to a sleeper patio area, complemented by pebbles and minimal planting.
🌱 Softened the landscape with three island plant clusters, leaving open space for the client to personalize with a water fountain or garden sculpture in the future.
Overcoming Challenges for a Stunning Finish
Despite difficult access making the project more complex, the transformation was well worth the effort. The result is a modern, inviting outdoor sanctuary, blending structured elements with natural textures—a perfect escape to relax and unwind.
